Biomedical Science is an emerging applied interdisciplinary field within the medical domain. The Biomedical Science program addresses national strategic needs and future societal and technological developments by integrating theories and methodologies from basic medicine, biology, data science, and big data technology. Through systematic teaching and training, the program aims to cultivate students with both the ability to mine and apply medical big data and outstanding humanistic literacy, fostering top-tier interdisciplinary talents capable of advancing the development of new medical technologies, pharmaceuticals, and systems. This program contributes to the “Healthy China Initiative”, has a four-year duration, and leads to a Bachelor of Science degree.
The Biomedical Science program also offers the “Bethune Class”, which adopts an integrated undergraduate-graduate education model, one-on-one mentorship, and small-class teaching. With a separately designed training plan, the class aims to achieve the educational goals of “solid foundation, strong ability, emphasis on interdisciplinary integration, and innovation proficiency”. It focuses on cultivating future leaders in medical education and research who possess a strong command of both medical and artificial intelligence theories and skills, can proficiently apply medical and AI theories, methods, and technologies to address biomedical challenges related to human health and sustainable development in smart healthcare, and demonstrate exceptional medical and humanistic literacy. Graduates will be equipped to preliminarily solve scientific problems in fields such as basic medicine, clinical medicine, and medical artificial intelligence by comprehensively applying theoretical knowledge and technical skills. They will also possess the fundamental ability to engage in higher education, technology development, and equipment innovation in “Medicine + Artificial Intelligence”, along with a strong scientific mindset, critical thinking, innovative awareness, and preliminary competence in conducting scientific research projects.
